Meriwether County Tax Commissioner Addresses Penny Shortage and Payment Options
Meriwether County, GA — The Meriwether County Tax Commissioner’s Office would like to inform residents of an ongoing nationwide change affecting coin availability. The United States Mint has stopped production of the penny, and as a result, local banks are currently unable to supply pennies for the foreseeable future.
While some private businesses have chosen to round transaction totals due to the shortage, the Meriwether County Tax Commissioner’s Office wants to reassure the public that we will never round up your bill. All transactions will continue to be processed for the exact amount owed.
To help ensure smooth and efficient service during this time, customers paying with cash are encouraged to bring exact change whenever possible. For added convenience, the office also accepts checks, as well as credit and debit card payments.
We appreciate the public’s understanding and cooperation as we navigate this change. Our office remains committed to fairness, accuracy, and providing reliable service to all residents.
